Underground (Glasgow)

The Glasgow Underground System is the world's third oldest subway. Opened in 1896 it became part of Glasgow Corporation Transport in 1923. In 1977 it was close for a massive programme of refurbishment and re-opened in 1980 The system comprises of 15 stations on a circular route through the centre of the city and to the west, north and south of the river, and can be used to visit many of the city's major tourist attractions The total travel time is 24 minutes. The system carries nearly 15 million passengers each year.
